Custom games are so much more than a serious 5v5. With the right house rules, an ordinary LoL evening becomes one to remember. Ten proven ideas, from chill to total chaos.
1. All mid
Summoner's Rift, but everyone plays mid lane. No jungle, no roaming to side lanes. A 5v5 brawl from minute one — simple and always a hit.
2. 1v1 first blood / first tower / 100 CS
The classic way to settle who is the better player. Rules: first kill, first tower or first to 100 CS wins. Play it on Howling Abyss or mid lane on the Rift.
3. Random roulette
Everyone hits random in champion select — or lets their opponent pick their champion. Spicier version: roles are randomised too.
4. Protect the Soraka
One player per team picks a hypercarry or a squishy support; everyone else builds entirely around protecting them. The team whose VIP survives longest wins — or play the game normally, but the VIP must never die.
5. Hide and seek
A community classic on ARAM or in the jungle: one team seeks, the other hides. Seekers can't attack until they find someone; hiders can't fight, only escape with spells. Agree on the rules before you start.
6. Skillshots only (dodgeball)
Only skillshot champions allowed (Ezreal, Lux, Blitzcrank…), auto-attacks banned or minions-only. Hit by a hook or snipe in the agreed zone? You're out.
7. Mirror match
Both teams play exactly the same five champions (agreed beforehand or via draft + trade). Same tools on both sides: pure execution decides the winner.
8. Bravery / troll builds
Everyone lets a randomizer decide their build and role: AP Zed jungle, tank Vayne support… Games are chaos, but fair chaos: everyone is playing something unplayable.
9. Smurf handicap
Big skill gap in the group? Give the strongest players a handicap: no boots, support items only, or forced off-role. Keeps it competitive for everyone.
10. Coach draft
Two captains (or coaches in spectator slots) draft the teams and the champions for their players. The players execute — brilliant for community nights with a caster.
Short on players for your idea?
Most of these modes really shine with 6 to 10 players. Create a lobby on CustomLoL, put your rules in the description, and players up for the same madness will join. For the technical side, see our guide on creating a LoL custom game.
